This is Access RI ...

Greetings Roosevelt Island!

We are AccessRI; an urban planning studio commissioned by New York State Senator Jose Serrano to conduct an accessibility study for Roosevelt Island. The goal of our studio is to identify and address the key access issues of the Roosevelt Island community in a community-based plan. The accessibility plan will address transportation on and off the island, but will also consider the community’s access to government, health, emergency services, retail and recreation.

AccessRI, is a collaborative studio made up of ten (10) graduate students from the Department of Urban Affairs and Planning at Hunter College under the guidance of Professor Laxmi Ramasubramanian, M.Arch, MCP, PhD. Over the course of the 2008-2009 academic year, we will be compiling data and conducting a thorough investigation of the relevant issues on Roosevelt Island. Our end product will be a community based, comprehensive plan to be presented in the spring of 2009 to Senator Serrano and the Roosevelt Island community.

In order for our effort to be truly comprehensive, we will require the guidance of the Roosevelt Island community. The urban planning program at Hunter College is rooted in the philosophy of advocacy and community based planning. In keeping with this tradition, we will be seeking your input through a series of Town-hall meetings, community focus groups and surveys. We would greatly appreciate your participation in these activities and welcome your input, questions, or concerns.

Please feel free to reach out to us at accessri.studio@gmail.com. We look forward to meeting you and discussing the future of Roosevelt Island.
